People don't really care if "the economy" is healthy if they personally can't afford rent and groceries, and telling them to feel otherwise is just a way of reminding them they don't matter to the people in charge.
@gwynnion Exactly right. Stock performance only helps people privileged enough to own stocks.
@gwynnion "rich people's yacht money" is never healthy for us or our blue marble.
@gwynnion It's the same with employment. I read a Vox article recently about how the job market's great for employees right now, but that's news to me and my hundred job applications
@gwynnion I read something somewhere recently: replace “the economy” with “the rich”. Seems to work.
@pd @gwynnion Further, you can stop calling 'em "billionaires" and start calling 'em "oligarchs".

@gwynnion

You're right, it's true.
Everyone is like, "there's nothing I can do", They don't want to hear it.🙄

🤯
Has socially engineering been that's successful?
Causing fear of being alone in the crowd?

It's both internal and pressure from external

1.) newspaper, legacy journalism, is gone.
2.) media of every sort is owned (almost exclusively) by the opposition the right win
etc

@gwynnion The poor and the working class are no longer factored in the economy. its now just a measurement on how well the greed tyrants are doing.
@gwynnion @orangelantern We only matter when we grow knives and get stabby. Otherwise we’re just prole trash. I’m really digging pay-per-view guillotines mashed up with head-based bowling and Fanduel bookies fielding the betting. Yeah, it’s rude, gory, and gross. Just like the life they’ve forced us to endure.
@gwynnion Someone posted it on here a while back, and I've found it an effective tool to simply replace 'the economy' with 'rich people's yacht money'.
There are depressingly few occasions where it doesn't work.

@gwynnion - the economy is just fine on a macro level, if you go by the metrics that end up driving the socially destructive behavior we are seeing from captains of industry.

On the other hand, if you look at it from the micro level, the situation is not that great, with many people living paycheck to paycheck and with no social safety net.

I'm fortunate and privileged, that doesn't mean I don't see a lot of people struggling and hopeless. Look around, open your eyes, be kind, help if you can.

@gwynnion this is what I’m screaming internally whenever someone tries to talk to me about the stock market being up or down - I know that I was paying 4.99 for certain grocery staples that now this year cost 7.99 and idgaf about some billionaire’s capital gains or losses
@gwynnion True. However, when a R is in the WH, rightwing media talks ceaselessly about how great the economy is and the mainstream media largely backs it up. When a D is in the WH, rightwing media talks ceaselessly about how terrible the economy is and the MSM finds a way to constantly highlight the negative, or attach conditionals to the positive, to justify the way Rs are "feeling." Remains true even when the economy under a D outperforms the economy under an R.

@gwynnion

Yeah well that's just the "real" economy. The one that only matters to 99% of the population.
