#SC23 #HPC thread!
On my way. Didn’t see any “welcome SC23” banners at the airport :(
The train is really a very good option!
Glorious day in Denver!

One more from #SC23 that I’m just getting to. Check out this from European Processor Initiative.
- 22nm by GF
- Long vector, RISC-V, VPU
- Variable precision, VRP, inc 128bit IEEE
- Stencil processing, RISC-V, STX, for ML
- Notably: pretty large team in multiple countries and organizations.
1.0 sampled about a year ago. Same process.
1.5 was announced just before #SC23
@Shahin So they've spent EU grant money, built some prototypes and spend lots of time at conferences. Is anybody actually doing or committed to doing something with anything they are building?

@darryl_ramm SiPearl is probably the most notable chip vendor under the EPI umbrella. Their Arm based CPU is going to get paired with H100s by Eviden (Atos spinout more or less back to what was Bull) for the 1st exascale system in Europe at Julich.

Also in general, herding the cats, sooner or later. has a good shot at becoming a superpower of EU at a time when most everyone else wants to take their toys and go home.

@Shahin Hi Shahin I was aware of SiPerl Rhea work. And there are questions there. What most confuses me is how EPAC is positioned as a coproceesor for Rhea. EPAC 1, 1.5, 2 seem much more disconnected from delivery for any practical use and seems a hodgepodge of components. If it's a platform for those different teams to get some silicon delivery experience etc. that's great but I don't follow where that leads or how it fits into things. Please explain it to me in simple pictures :-)
