the irony of when someone writes something critical of LLMs but ends up repeating themselves and sounding like an LLM by accident.
@LukaszOlejnik the data set used in this study may be flawed.
"We note that, on average, a freelancer starts a job once every three months, for an average monthly pay of $171. There exists, however, substantial variation across both months and freelancers." [p. 6]
p.20 shows that the 95th percentile makes $550 monthly. i'm not sure this can be considered representative.
@LukaszOlejnik ok. You are basing your theory on a 0.04 decrease in a timeframe, in which interest rates rose to 20-year-highs and which falls to the beginning of a year, when budgets are tight anyway.
DID YOU CHECK WHETHER THE AUTHOR OF THE STUDY IS ACTUALLY HUMAN?
John Burn Murdoch wrote about this and other research on the topic:

The paper that you cite was based on a study of UpWork - copywriting work on that platform tends to be the high volume, low value sor, i think.
A friend who does that sort of work tells me it checks out with what they are experiencing. Make sense: Prices per word are already low, and the idea is to get something, anything, down asap. Ideal work for LLMs.
@LukaszOlejnik if you just need word salad to fill your pages ChatGPT is certainly a great option. I hope people will be able to discern filler from thoughtfully written text.
Another important role of the professional writer or designer is protecting their clients from their worst impulses. It will be easy to spot the cheapskate.
