Again the French Ministries of Research and Foreign Affairs are trying to trick young researchers into working for one year in France without a job contract. It is the #MakeOurPlanetGreatAgain program (https://www.campusfrance.org/fr/actu/programme-mopga-ouverture-d-un-nouvel-appel-a-candidatures).

No contract = No unemployment benefits, no health insurance, no pension rights.

#MOPGA does not respect the European Charter for Researchers (https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/charter/european-charter).

A correction to my toot: in France there is universal health care. So, after 3 months, if the researcher is able to proof their residence in France for that period of time (e.g. 3 month rent invoices) the researcher will have the right of health care. This doesn't really change my opinion of the MOPGA program. Shame on them for offering such unfair conditions.

@Miguel_de_Navascues

They mention health insurance here: https://www.campusfrance.org/en/mopga-2024

Does that differ from health insurance with a contract? I am genuinely curious.

@DGKontopoulos It is not very clear what they are offering regarding health coverage. They include a private health insurance. Since it is private it is difficult to know what does it cover exactly. It is supposed to include the full coverage that all workers enjoy with the public health insurance once the researcher has the "affiliation a la securite social". But you only get that if you have a job contract, so I do not understand how the researcher will be able to get the "affiliation".
@Miguel_de_Navascues I see. Thanks for the heads-up!
@DGKontopoulos I do not mean to put off researchers for which this could be a good career opportunity. I just feel it is unfair to them, as they will be working next to other researchers that enjoy full workers rights.
If you are considering to apply ask for more information about the health insurance (e.g. will it cover also your family as the public health insurance would?)
