Today marks one year since I walked away from 360,000 followers on that other site and joined this incredible community here!

That was easily one of the most positive moves I've ever made, and I frankly haven't looked back. Thank you to @jerry and everyone else who keeps this place humming. Come to think of it, it's time to renew our annual support!

@briankrebs @jerry So happy I can follow you here.
@briankrebs @jerry @D_J_Nathanson I just looked, and I’m one day behind you. :-)
@briankrebs glad to have you here, thanks for making the leap! 😊🙏

@briankrebs

Thank you for being open for a change, and picking what looked best to you. Glad to hear you consider it a change for the better, and happy I can follow you here.

@jerry

@briankrebs @jerry based
(TL Note: based means BASED)
@briankrebs about a year for me, too: 1/10th the followers and 0% regret!
@briankrebs @jerry just downloaded this app and like 20% of the posts i see are about X lmao

@mnb @briankrebs it comes in waves to be sure, but it’s mostly when something wild happens over there or we hit an anniversary, like Brian is mentioning. This month marks one year for probably half the people active on the fediverse, so probably a lot more to come.

One thing that is frustrating is that when it was Twitter, filtering was a lot easier, but many posts still include the word - so my best advice is to set up some filters. They work quite well.

@jerry @mnb @briankrebs With 0 people you’re following you’ll get a skewed view of Mastodon too. It’s shaped much more than Twexxer by your follows. Twitter is algorithmically customized but a lot of people see nearly the same thing. Mastodon is personally curated and experiences are highly heterogeneous.
@glennf @jerry @mnb @briankrebs it’s also a time of retrospection given its roughly a year since Elon showed up over there.l and drove users away.

Mastodon: The algorithm is people!!! It’s people!!!

@briankrebs I’m glad you’re here, and I know many others are too.
@briankrebs @jerry sometimes I go back on this twitter thing and there are far fewer posts to read, and many are upsetting and angry.
Often I invite people to change. Especially the space rocket community. They seem to want to stay there because of Musk.
@briankrebs @jerry fantastic comment. I did not have the same follower count, but it was worth the move.
@briankrebs @jerry That's amazing, I only left a few months ago (had been on here for about a year and a half not using it) but I feel less isolated since 98% of my 900 followers were either Stream promoters, GFX artists, or bots looking to have me commission or hire them or scam me. I have WAY FEW followers on here but it feels more genuine. Now if I can just figure out social media in general 😅
@briankrebs @jerry Money donated to Mastodon gGmbH does not go to your instance. (I’m sorry if you already knew this, but it’s a common misconception.)
@briankrebs @jerry woha I just found out your here. Yay!
@briankrebs @jerry So glad you made it here Brian.
@briankrebs @jerry I followed you there and was happy to find your account here so I can continue to follow.
@briankrebs @jerry Isn't it nice? Having intelligent discussions rather than shouting matches? 🙂
@briankrebs
I love the community we have here. You're a great journalist
@jerry

@briankrebs

I'm happy to be able to follow you here.

@briankrebs
That would be your eX platform. It writes itself. Good riddance to it
@briankrebs @jerry Hi Brian, while I still have stuff post to the other site, I don't go over there much either. With 4 accounts, its impossible without an app and since I'm on the computer, using an app is better than that site which took that access away from me and many more. Search out that other site on my blog at jaredtech.help and you'll see what I mean.
