Yo peeps! I'm on the look out for a new #groovebox. I currently have a #Novation #CircuitTracks but I find the sample manipulation and sequencing too limiting. I did buy an #Elektron #Syntakt but that doesn't do samples and I don't think my brain works the Elektron way.

Here's some things I'd like in a #DreamGroovebox

* Battery powered
* Works well in sunlight
* Can control at least 4 external, preferably 8 external MIDI devices
* A sequencer with at least 64 steps that can do program change
* Internal synths with polyphony
* A sampler that can change start point and maybe increase volume without distorting the sound

If this seems too much for a groovebox what might peeps suggest for a separate sequencer and sampler?

I already own:
* Roland TR-08
* Roland TB-03
* Arturia Microfreak
* Korg Monologue
* Korg Volca Sample (don't really use this)
@drh I think the only one that does all of the above (or near) is the MPC Live 2.
@Weru Yeah... Or maybe the #Synthstrom #Deluge.
@Weru Unless I get a #Korg #SQ64 #sequencer now and a separate #sampler further down the track?
@Weru Someone has a Roland SP 404 OG for $450 AUD on FB Marketplace… very tempting.
@drh That would cover the sampling, and sequencing, plus portability. I've heard peeps talk about SP's being best for LoFi, not sure if that is legit.
@drh I forgot the Deluge has a battery. I would pick a Deluge over an MPC if it weren't beyond my current budget. I love what I've seen of the Deluge. Cool box. That said I don't need portability.
@Weru most peeps I talk to don’t get the mobile thing. I’m a stay at home Dad and need to get out of the house 🥹🤪😜
@drh I started out DAWless, with a Roland Verselab MV1, but have found Ableton Live with Native Instruments Komplete a better fit for me.
@drh I was gonna suggest the Deluge as well. It checks a lot of your requirements. But it's maybe overqualified (hence expensive) and a huge rabbithole. There's the potential to fall in love with it or be overwhelmed.
@Mondgesicht The Deluge is at the top of my list at the moment. Also, they’re made in New Zealand and I’m a kiwi. There are some reasonably priced secondhand ones.
@drh Well well well...
@Mondgesicht have you had a play on one?

@drh Oh yes. I get to use my partner's and I fell in love with it.

I'm not really a musician, don't play any instrument and don't really have proper knowledge about music structure... But the Deluge somehow gives me a lot of possiblities. I feel like it can be approached from a musical perspective as well es a technical perspective. But I, a rookie, also get to play around - and still create cool stuff. As a groovebox it has more to offer than the Novation Circuit while at the same time being as easily accessible. And then it's a lot more than a groovebox.
