Went to the local community Christmas craft fair earlier. Didn’t buy anything, though there were some nice things.

It was as much for me about making connections and being seen, as my interest in crafts. And that’s something I’d never really have thought I would be doing in the recent past.

Like many things that have changed for me, this is just another indirect but connected fragment of the larger new picture.

A new picture I'm continuing to enjoy…

I’ve been part of this community my whole life, but being shy and quiet I was more inclined to blend in.

With my newly realised confidence and subsequent various life changes I’m going to be seen, and be a more prominent member of the community, so I’m trying to attend events I didn’t used to so I have more contacts & others know me enough if they need to contact me at some point.

This is as much about my career change, and my new interests, as it is my Scouting.

@hischeekiness it's hard at first but the more you get out there, the easier it gets.

@IoanSaid It’s very true, I’m seeing that already.

I’m finding it all peculiarly fascinating, which is unexpected, and oddly enjoyable.

@hischeekiness we're very much a helping family.
#parkrun #scouts #church #sportsclubs #police and anything else really, we've been involved with, thought I stopped many things myself recently. My wife is still at it.

@IoanSaid Lovely to hear.

I keep seeing things I might want to get involved with lately, but I’m very wary about overstretching. I have 3 different things I volunteer with, but I want to do what I do to the best of my ability. I will cut back if I need to, but not the Scouting, I’m really enjoying it and it helps the most people.

How did you decide how much and what to stop?

@hischeekiness when it becomes a chore.

@IoanSaid Love the simple and straightforward reply. 👍

You seem to be content now though. Long may it continue.

@hischeekiness Everyday I wake up and go to bed grateful :)

@IoanSaid @hischeekiness

Yes, this. My husband and I volunteer at Repair Cafes, and were doing 4 a month, but recently decided we needed more time off, so we've dropped two - the two that we were starting to feel too much like hard work, and that we came away from tired, instead of fulfilled.

@suearcher @hischeekiness and VERY IMPORTANT: Do not feel guilty when you feel your time is done. You've done a shift. That's more than most already.
@suearcher @IoanSaid Very sensible. Got to look after yourselves.
