What Koreans are not aware of is that the First Generation K-pop artists and groups were known here in the Philippines. ^_~

We have known H.O.T, Turbo, Sechs Kies, Baby V.O.X, DIVA, S.E.S, Rain, Fin.K.L, g.o.d, BoA, Jewelry, Jang Na Ra, to mention a few.

Even from Western artists, like Michael Learns To Rock, to mention one, have said their Philippine concerts were always the best. ^_^

Moon Hee Joon was the leader of a first-generation K-pop idol group H.O.T ( you mentioned) while her mother Soyul was from a girl group known as Crayon Pop
Jam Jam is their daughter- a very cute show. Jam Jam is a natural actress and comedian ( she is like 4yo..and the show is very entertaining ( well to me it is )🤔🤔😁👍🥰🥰🥰😍🤗😊

@youronlyone His wife is in some of them, but he is more involved, as he is part of the reality show, more than his wife is. Once in a while, they will play an old Cayon Pop video and she will do her dance routine with him, is pretty awesome. 👍

우리가 1995년부터 K-pop 가수와 그룹의 1세대를 알게 된 것은 OCW(해외계약직)와 이주민들이 아이들에게 앨범을 가져다주고 학교와 친구들에게 전달해주었기 때문입니다. 라디오 방송국을 히트시키기도 하고, 90년대 필리핀 댄스 열풍의 음악으로 사용되기도 했습니다.

즉, 한류가 시작되기 훨씬 전부터 필리핀에서는 이미 K-pop이 자리를 잡고 있었고, 현대의 K-pop이 중국과 일본에서 인기를 얻기 훨씬 전부터 이곳 필리핀에서는 이미 K-pop이 알려져 있었습니다.

보아가 필리핀에서 가장 인기 있는 K-pop 솔로 가수라고 할 수 있는 것은 그녀의 노래의 일본어 버전이 한국어 원본과 함께 한국에서 빠른 인기를 얻었기 때문입니다.

The reason we have known the first generation of K-pop artists and groups since 1995 was because OCW (Overseas Contract Workers; as it was known then), and migrants, were bringing back albums to their kids and these were passed around in schools and friends. Some even hit radio stations; or were used as a music for the 90s Philippine dance craze.

In other words, long before the assumed beginning of the Hallyu wave, K-pop was already gaining grounds in the Philippines. Long before modern K-pop started to get popular in China and Japan, they were already known here in the Philippines.

I would say that BoA was the most popular K-pop solo artist in the Philippines because the Japanese versions of her songs gained quick popularity here, along with the original Korean versions.

K-pop 역사의 이 부분이 어떤 출처에서도 언급되지 않는 것이 안타깝습니다. 아시아를 휩쓸기 몇 년 전부터 필리핀에서 K-pop의 도래를 목격해 온 우리 세대는 다음 생으로 넘어가고 있습니다.

한국과 필리핀 역사의 이 부분이 잊혀지는 것은 소위 '명망 있는' 자료가 없기 때문에, 그것을 기록하고 싶어하는 사람들이 없기 때문에, 그것을 목격한 사람들은 충분히 '명망 있는' 사람들이 아니기 때문에 슬픈 일입니다.
