@molly0xfff /me dies of absolute shock
@molly0xfff oh wow!! I'm in the middle of your Day 15 video and not surprised but still damnnnnnnn.
@molly0xfff Shocked, etc.
@mattblaze @molly0xfff
TBT I think the jury just strung things out long enough to get a free dinner.
@ncweaver @molly0xfff It was a 60 page jury instruction and verdict sheet. Would take as long as they took just to go through it.
@ncweaver @mattblaze @molly0xfff OH and by the way that is a nice kitty avatar you have there, it would be a shame if someone stole that picture....
@mattblaze @molly0xfff So we’re finally going to find out how much are 110 years in prison in rich white man years.
@oscherler @molly0xfff He also stole from rich while guys, so that may cancel things out a bit.

@mattblaze @molly0xfff Good point.

I read the sentence is scheduled for March next year, that’s quite different from how it’s portrayed in most movies. 😂

@oscherler @mattblaze @molly0xfff why does sentencing take that long? Isn't it pretty much formula application?

@fmobus @oscherler @molly0xfff No, there's a pre-sentencing report that gets prepared, and both sides get to respond to it, and then the judge considers that plus the sentencing guidelines.

110 years is the upper end, and is unlikely in this case, though there are a bunch of aggregating factors here that could push it well past the lower end.

@mattblaze @fmobus @oscherler @molly0xfff Why not determine sentencing with a random number generator, bounded 80-105 years?
@mattblaze @fmobus @oscherler @molly0xfff At one point the NYT website was suggesting that sentencing was delayed til March because he might go on trial for more charges in February, so the judge wanted an update on that before sentencing.
@molly0xfff looks like that juror will make her friday flight!
@molly0xfff "I thought you were my friends," I will imagine Sam said to the jury.
@NIH_LLAMAS @molly0xfff TBH he thought that the prosecution were his friends and that his statements wowed everyone.
@ZillaMon @molly0xfff He's going to win on appeal anyway, because he answered every question with, "Off the record..."
@molly0xfff Rest in pepperoni Sammy B.

@molly0xfff

Sadly, this is kind of shocking. I didn't think the justice system would work.

@molly0xfff I'm shocked… shocked.
@timbray @molly0xfff Not even 40 minutes of deliberation per count including the overhead of selecting a foreperson and ordering and eating pizza

@drbrain @timbray @molly0xfff Halfway through the second slice:

"So, just to check, guilty on all counts right?"
"Obviously." "Duh." "Of course." The rest nod because their mouths are full of pizza.

"Should we go through it then and get this over with?"
"I mean, I guess? What's to talk about?"
"The real question is whether we stick around for more free pizza or just turn in the verdict and go home."

@drbrain @timbray @molly0xfff
Jury did themselves out of extra pizza being so quick about it.
@MercG while I was an alternate juror, free pizza and $10 would not have been adequate compensation for another day of deliberations
@drbrain Sure, but these deliberations seemed pretty straightforward; I woulda drawn it out just a lil’ for an extra pepperoni slice.
@molly0xfff Worst. Defense. Ever. I mean, he's totally guilty, and the government had a mountain of evidence, so I'm not sure what they could have done.
@tob @molly0xfff He should never have done those post collapse media tours that he did. He learned nothing from Enron as well.
@tob @molly0xfff It turns out your client going on a "here are why my crimes are not crimes, and are actually just misunderstood whoopsie-doodles" world tour across all forms of media ever does not help you build a case defending against accusations of doing crime.
@molly0xfff Michael Lewis must be pleased he got the book out early
@molly0xfff he's cooked
@molly0xfff it's weird seeing all the gloating crypto bros on twitter who don't realize / want to think about how similar they are to him. like y'all are all the same kind of guy he was just way higher up on the pyramid than you scumbags.
@molly0xfff next downfall to look forward to is CZ's... any day now
@molly0xfff ~"Looks like we're gonna be roomies. You're the guy that didn't embezzle billions of dollars from that trading platform? I'm the guy that didn't resort to drug dealing and armed robbery after gambling away his life savings on that trading platform. Yours is the bottom bunk. We have a lot to talk about."~
@molly0xfff
Enjoy all the free time you're about to have! 🥳

@molly0xfff oh no, just imagine the chilling effect this will have on *checks notes* financial scammers who try to use the mathwashing defense!

"It wasn't me, your honor, it was The Computer."

@molly0xfff Can't wait for sentencing. They're going to write entirely new books to throw at him.
@molly0xfff Yey. Lots more scumbags to go.

@molly0xfff

Your coverage of this has been excellent, and I want to thank you for the endless hours you spent in overflow rooms taking notes.

Will you be covering the sentencing phase?

@molly0xfff I’ve never been more surprised. “I don’t recall” how I ran a financial company seemed like such a good defence.
@molly0xfff perfect score!
I want to peek in the parallel universe where he didn't testify to see how many he got over there
@molly0xfff Poor guy he deserved even worse.
@molly0xfff I'm imagining the end of The Producers when the jury foreman says "We find the defendant *incredibly* guilty"
@molly0xfff since his testimony, I keep thinking that most of the evidence used against him during his stand was his crazy post-collapse media tour (that every single lawyer would advise against).
I guess he just found out that he is, shockingly, not smarter than the rest of the world and cannot out-bullshit himself out of every situation. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@molly0xfff Wonder if they'll indict his parents (who seemed almost to be co-conspirators)
@BlindMansBinary @molly0xfff I'd be surprised if his father didn't face charges.
