Investing in Space: The space station kingmaker

Several U.S. companies are working to build orbiting habitats to replace the aging International Space Station, with NASA key to seeding the fledgling market.

#BlueOrigin's #OrbitalReef would consist of three modules. Each module would be bigger than those on the #ISS. Combined, they would provide 830 cubic meters of habitable space. Thatโ€™s equivalent to the volume of a #Boeing 777 cargo plane โœˆ๏ธ, or 91% of the total interior volume of the #ISS. The core module would be a windowed atrium measuring 10.5 m long and 5.8 m ๐Ÿ“ in diameter. Off to one side would be a smaller โ€œlife module,โ€ which would serve as the crewโ€™s ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿš€ living quarters. To the other side is the #laboratory โš—๏ธ module.
How #BlueOrigin would #launch ๐Ÿš€ its modules remains an open question. https://time.com/6163554/private-space-stations/

The Age of the Private Space Station Is Upon Us

With the International Space Station (ISS) set to be retired in 2030, as many as four new private stations may take to the skies.

@spaceflight Starlab looks to me like a much more realistic prospect, especially now that Northrop Grumman have backed it instead of their own venture.

Northrop Grumman to join Voyager Space commercial space station project

Northrop Grumman will drop plans to develop its own commercial space station and instead assist a competing effort led by Voyager Space.
