@Daojoan they permanently banned me before rocket man took over because I had the temerity to call into question the ability of one Liz Truss to be a member of parliament, this was long before there was any suggestion that she would be an incumbent of number 10. It was quite apparent that the Tories had some serious influence at the top of the old bird site. I merely suggested she gained high office for skills other than intellect. Nothing since has changed my mind.

@Daojoan BTW, do you have a blog? Your tweets about the net the way it used to be would be great as a blog post. Your instance appears to have a really limiting post length. My main account is on my own server and has a 3000 character post limit. You can really streach your thoughts with that kind of room.

@Daojoan it’s not about numbers, it’s about quality. When I looked at my followers on Twitter as I do here, I wonder why so many bothered or even if the existed. Check their details every so often and block if they don’t seem right

@Daojoan I left Twitter a while back, had +2000 followers there (small, but felt like a lot for me). Came here, have about 300 followers, and I sell so many more of my game art assets.

I think a lot of us believed that It was essential for us to have Twitter accounts for the sake of our livelihoods, and it turns out that it was actually throttling them. Same can be said for my mental health and Twitter!

@Daojoan similar here in that the numbers are fractions but they're quality numbers. Cohost might be slightly better. Twitter feels like my favorite coffee shop from the late 90s / early 00s near the end of its lifespan in the mid 10s - listless, lifeless, and the patrons all believed there was nowhere else to go.

@Daojoan I deleted twitter last year, as soon as that jackass trotted in with the kitchen sink

Not that follower count mattered, but I got *more* followers on Mastodon (I had an account since 2017), and, more importantly, much more engagement -- and QUALITY engagement -- than I ever got on twitter.

I've seen so many people say they same thing. In fact, they usually add that the traffic they get here is better quality, not just more of it.

Mastodon is just a better place to be.

@Daojoan When I started using Mastodon during the Twitter exodus when Musk first took over, I was pleasantly surprised at the excellent engagement! I felt like I was back in the early Twitter days when I couldn't even keep up with the conversations on my Blackberry. I had been mostly inactive on Twitter for a decade.

@Daojoan And it could be even nicer here for you on another instance, a better "home" instead of the big mastodon.social. A smaller instance, whether it's one defined by your interests or geographically, allows you to really use the "local" timeline. That's the one thing I love most here, having this virtual village square.

@Daojoan I've found that I grow followers more consistently here, on "Birdchan" I would gain may 2-3 every month or so, but I think I gain a new follower here every couple weeks (I did move accounts though, so I lost that)

@thecommunistpig I think my biggest shift is that I don’t feel worry about my new followers being anti trans / nazis, and I can just follow back and feel quite safe.
