@greenaspen to be clear, THE WHOLE of Scotland is naturally woodland, right up to the summits. Reforesting as much of the uplands as possible with mixed native species (or species mixes aimed at suitability for likely future climate) could greatly improve carbon sequestration, flood mitigation and amenity, while still allowing timber and fuelwood production, and some production of venison, pork, wild mushrooms and other forest products.
@simon_brooke indeed! Only so much you can put in one toot …but I’m thinking of switching to the server favoured by @breadandcircuses …and start posting rants and essays about #landreform and #climate.

@greenaspen @LillyHerself @simon_brooke @breadandcircuses I believe hazelnuts were the staple diet in prehistoric Scotland
@peterbrown @simon_brooke @breadandcircuses @LillyHerself yes, and we can grow them so much bigger now than the wild ones …although who knows how big they were back then? #PlantBreeding
#Kentish #cobnuts. #filberts
@greenaspen @simon_brooke @breadandcircuses @LillyHerself I’m sure somebody does, because apparently they found hazelnut remains at a 9000 year old settlement on the Isle of Rum
