In 4 separate #motions to #dismiss — or limit the #scope of — the case, Trump’s “#legal team” made an array of arguments on “legal & #constitutional grounds”, some of which strained the boundaries of credulity.

The attys claimed, largely citing *news* articles, that Pres #Biden had pressured the #DOJ to pursue a “nakedly political” selective prosecution of #Trump. They asserted that prosecutors in #SpecialCounsel #JackSmith’s office failed to #prove any of the 3 #conspiracy counts brought.

& they argued that under the principle of #DoubleJeopardy, #Trump could not be tried #on the #ElectionInterference charges since he had already been acquitted by the #Senate on many of the same accusations during his 2nd #impeachment.

(Absolutely not how that works, so they’re either morons who shouldn’t have gotten through #law school, let alone passed the #bar, or they’re lying in #FederalCourt papers)

The attys also tried to persuade Judge #Chutkan… that the allegations against #Trump, accusing him of wielding #lies about #election #fraud in a vast campaign to pressure others to help him stay in #power, were based on examples of “core political speech” & were therefore protected by the #FirstAmendment.
(Um, that ↑ is an admission he was lying all along)
