The unsung hero of WW2: the De Havilland Mosquito

Norky celebrates the versatility and fighting capabilities of the ‘Mossie’

@YorksBylines I met an elderly lady in Cambridge and she told me that in the war she worked for Marshals at the airport mending the wings of mosquitos. I said the RSPCA must have been proud, I got thumped by her handbag
@YorksBylines Amongst #Aviation Geeks (such as myself) the capabilities of the Wooden Wonder are still well known. The bomber design at concept that relied on speed rather than armament as its principal defence. Then the multitude of roles it went on to carry out. There is lovely footage available on Youtube of an airworthy example in NZ. Another 1 being restored to airworthy condition in UK. #DeHavilland #Mossie #Merlins https://youtu.be/uZEfVFT4__Y?si=ffW5gQ7sAp_SM0s3

This 1944 footage of a Mosquito attack should interest Norky.

I live in France & just up the road from me, on 30th July 1944 5 Mosquitos attacked.

It 's Château de Trévarez which at the time was used as a place of rest for U-Boat crew & quarters of Gestapo officers.

This You Tube clip is actual camera footage taken by one of the Mosquitos in the attack.

They came in following the Nantes Brest Canal at low level then attacked the rear of the Château.

I do not think it is really that unsung.
