Friends, #fediverse - ians, lend me your ears 👂

I spoke to a very interesting group of people last week about the prospects for Public Social Media.

I feel I should write a brief essay as followup and I am staring forlornly at my text editor.

How shall I explain to people unfamiliar with the #fediverse why it represents a promising opportunity for their organizations?

@gbhnews There are people in the #fediverese who are sincerely interested in content from public media sources. We’re not just looking for “hot takes” that “go viral”. We’re interested in intelligent communication. And some of us are willing to support it by donating to public media outlets. I do! #WEMU #WTVS 📻📺📡👍😁

Also, if news outlets are looking for interaction with public, not just broadcasting their message, #fediverse seems like a much more hospitable place than the alternatives.

Worth noting that as I understand it, at this point that is because it doesn't have the audience to attract trolls, yet, not because its defenses are better. So, that's something fediverse needs to address.
