Goddamn this milk loving racist sexist briscoes deck furniture etc.
It's so weird that left wing party Labour NZ did some actual left-wing stuff and got a huge majority, and then pivoted to ruling out doing pretty much anything that might impact the precious status quo and consequently didn't get those votes? SO WEIRD. If only lessons could be learned from this, but alas, the reasons why this happened will forever remain a mystery.
@jsr
No one’s prepared to say it but everyone knows Labour lost the #NZVotes23 election for daring to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Racism won the election for the right. #NZPol

@jeremy_pm @jsr For honouring it perhaps but also not attempting to defend it in any consistent sense, and for total political ineptitude for just ignoring when they were past the feeling of the electorate.

Take three waters: Two distinct chances (the three levels of boards -> two levels, the increase in numbers of entities) and they didn't read the room. Having 1/3 crown monitors for example, so 1/3 councils, 1/3 Iwi, 1/3 crown could have taken some heat out.

@abartlet @jsr
I’m old enough to remember the #NZMedia attacks on Chris Hipkins for calling out racism. Huge win for #NewZealand racism. #NZPol
@jeremy_pm @jsr was likely a multitude of reasons. Chris never explained until the end why he’d ruled out certain taxes, allocated 2B to mental health but couldn’t explain enough what had been done, AKL transport projects didn’t go anywhere, Covid and cyclones had their impacts too. The campaign didn’t remind people of all that Labour had done that was positive. Galling that Luxon was more dishonest and evasive but is PM now… only 3yrs … only 3 yrs
