#ViennaMetalMeeting report 🧵

Part 1

Oh man it felt great to be back where all are dressed black 🤘

The first act of the day was an Austrian band called #Dusk. Spoiler alert: they were my discovery of the evening.

We didn't know them, and were really impressed! They play some kind of psychodelic fantasy pagan themed heavy metal, you should check them out:

#ViennaMetalMeeting report part 2

After we listened to some songs of Omnium Gatherum it was time for Heavy Metal from the #Waldviertel: #Küenring 🤘

What a great show! The 10 minute song Hounds Of Kuenring was epic af, my highlight of the day.

#ViennaMetalMeeting report part 3

After some Harakiri For The Sky it was time for #Primordial

After a long intro came another long intro to their new song How It Ends and another intro To Hell Or The Hangman. The songs were great, but then we had enough of all the intros and went to the small stage again.

#ViennaMetalMeeting report part 4

On the small stage, a black metal band from Salzburg called #Vinsta kicked off their set. But then their lead singer/guitarist was gone. Then he came back and was gone again. Technical issues. I think he had to puke as well. Then the backing vocals person disappeared and only 3 of the initial 5 people were left.
They continued, then the missing persons came back.
Black metal with a violin.
We left for Dinner.

I had Bosna, the President had Käsekrainer Hotdog.

Now it was time for a big one, a #MetalheadClub favourite: #Katatona
Both my friend and I aren't really fans but we thought: maybe live.

...changing stages after 3 songs was a great decision, because holy moly, #Stallion from Ravensburg, Germany were a force.
With their early 80s speed metal they partied so hard, their gig was by far the most fun all evening.
The pit was moshed 🤘

Back at the mainstage, Katatonia was still playing the same song, it seemed.

#ViennaMetalMeeting report, addon to part 5
In all fairness: #Katatonia sounded great, they had by far the best sound and I was impressed that they're only a 3 piece with a singer. I expected 3 guitars...
But well, some things aren't meant to be.
If you are a fan, I bet you'll have a great time seeing them live.

#ViennaMetalMeeting report part 6

The headliner: #ParadiseLost

There was a goosebumps moment when everyone in the hall sang along to Black No 1 from Type O Negative shortly before PL entered the stage.

Then PL.
Simply put: they were great! It was a pitty that I don't know any lyrics because I wanted to sing along so badly.

I secretly hoped that they'll play Fader or Mouth, but I guess that era is long forgotten.

Anyhow, it was great seeing them live!

All in all a great evening🤘

The End.

Oh I just learned that #Katatonia do have 5 members? Where did they hide the 5th one?

Attached a potatoe photo, there's no 5th member in sight...

@derthomas Hope it was a good show! They were excellent when I saw them here in Copenhagen in February. I too was taken aback by them being a 5 piece 😅
@shivering_wreck well, we only watched 3 songs... musically great, no doubt, but we decided to give a lesser known band at the other stage a chance. And they were great ;-)
@derthomas Well, since we're opening up, I have to admit to leaving half-way through Cannibal Corpse's set in the summer. Not because they weren't excellent, but because I had a cold and had spent my neck on the Dark Funeral set beforehand. It's nice to be able to admit that.
@shivering_wreck no shame in that! I saw Slayer when they played for zhe last time in Vienna with a cold. I pushed through, but ever since I have a slight tinitus on my left ear. I don't mind though, I barely here it, and if, it is a nice reminder of this great show 😂
@derthomas spoken like a true Slayer fan 😅
Correction (after I checket): shame on me, I obviously suck with genres.
#Vinsta describes themselves as Progressive Death Metal. My apologies, Vinsta!
