Great to see that Depeche Mode's royalty cheques have come in, and all of the band can afford a shirt of their own.

A massive cut here. We lose Meat Loaf with "Midnight at the lost and found" clipped from a recent edition of The Late Late Breakfast Show....

David Grant with a vibrant performance, and just a suspicion that he's miming.

The Alarm bring their fringed jackets and bags of energy. This is what the kids want!

As New Order are demonstrating, all-live performances on #TOTP tended to be a bit ropey.

When this song was re-issued in '88, they played the video. What happened with the '95 re-release? SPOILER! Oh.

Still number one, and Boy George wears a pie on his hat, literally. The backing band are dressed up in NFL-ball outfits, like they're auditioning for Mauler McCall's gang.

#TOTP had "Dear Prudence" last week, and next week. Looked a bit like this.

STATVS QUO still banging out the hits that made them popular in the Flavian Amphitheatre.

One cut from this episode - Diana Ross at "My old piano".

Pop news and star interviews. This is not a good idea.

"Enola Gay" with Andy McClusky looking like he should be on Come Prancing with Terry Wogan. OMD should be massive in this decade.

Coffee's "Casanova", a song to confess that I don't know I don't know.

Black Slate were a difficult band to understand - the crowd reaction at the end demonstrates that "Amigo" is *different* - but I think it's worth it. And we'd be richer if there were more songs like it though pop's history.

Here's some disposable pop from The Nolans. "Gotta pull yourself together" is somewhat forgotten, not unjustly.

Tonight's second appearance for David Grant, still dancing and finding the camera like a star.

Unlike most of the previous half-hour, The Police's song has been blunted through over-exposure.

Coming soon to this hashtag!

1995 - Simon Mayo with a Follow That! edition, then Ant and Dec with far too many people who never had number one singles, and far too many people who did have time at number one but shouldn't.

1987 - Gary Davies and Peter Powell, and something from the short-lived CBS Top of the Pops.

1984 - Mike Read and Tommy Vance, and Stevie Wonder's toaster.

That's next week's Top of the Pops, 7pm Friday on BBC4 and #TOTP.

Until then, I leave you with a gem from this week in 1983. Brain of Brains, the triennial competition to find the best BBC Brain champion. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2B-BfgkPu8

Whatever you're doing this weekend, #TOTP crew, have a great one!

@daweaver You're really selling it!
@daweaver Real strong "karaoke and I've not had enough to drink" vibes with that one
@daweaver I'm amazed there was even an episode left after all those cuts 😉
