@lps I dont know if it still true but we use to figure that by switching to linux we saved one generation of hardware upgrades to get better performance out of the programs we ran.

@mral I can attest to that, I've saved so many older systems from the landfill by putting Linux on them:).

And, if we're being realistic most casual users of desktop computers now rely on a browser, an email client, the ability to print, and occasionally office software.

yea, and all of that can be done in linux without them even really noticing.
