Before anyone says, but I need _____ software for my work etc. that's fine, do that but don't do your personal computing with that same machine.
It's quite easy these days to get your hands on inexpensive older hardware (computers) that is perfectly capable of running Linux.
In this way, it's possible to dip your feet into the waters without fully committing.

@mral I can attest to that, I've saved so many older systems from the landfill by putting Linux on them:).
And, if we're being realistic most casual users of desktop computers now rely on a browser, an email client, the ability to print, and occasionally office software.
