🧵: I occasionally get ideas for #mashups that I haven't heard someone else do yet. I don't do this very often, so none are necessarily "perfect" -- and, of course, the entertainment value for you, dear listener, may vary depending on your tolerance for this sort of audio screwing around -- but I've had fun making them.

Choose Your Mortal Kombat Fighter (Ava Max vs. The Immortals)

I was listening to the Barbie soundtrack, and every time I heard Ava Max's "Choose Your Fighter", my brain just tossed the iconic "MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!" yell in. So, I had to see what I could do with that.

Closer to Virginity (nine inch nails vs. Madonna)

This one actually got its start more than two decades ago, when I was DJing at an all-ages club in Anchorage, Alaska. One night, just because it made me laugh, I put on "Closer" and, right after Trent sings "I want to fuck you...", I cut over to Madonna saying, "...like a virgin." Everybody laughed, and so every so often I'd do a little bit of "live mashup" DJing (long before the term "mashup" was a thing). This is an attempt at actually putting the two together in a more formal fashion.

Give It A Crablouse (Lords of Acid vs. Red Hot Chili Peppers)

I noticed at one point that the vocals in LOA's "Crablouse" and RHCP's "Give It Away Now" had the same basic rhythm. From there, the setup was pretty obvious.

Just Can't Get Flexible in 1999 (Depeche Mode vs. Prince)

I honestly can't remember if there was a particular inspiration for this one, aside from "Just Can't Get Enough" being one of my favorite Depeche Mode songs, and having the acapella of Prince's 1998 "The New Master" re-recording of "1999", and one day I decided to see what I could do with them....

Why Don't You Get A Job-La-Di, Cecilia? (Simon & Garfunkel vs. The Beatles vs. The Offspring)

This is one I've had bouncing around in my head for years, knowing it was ridiculous, but all three songs are _so_ similar that I had to give it a shot. Now you get to suffer too! ;)

EDIT: No fancy embed with this one, because YouTube's bots didn't like it. But click on through to my blog to listen and download!

The Scotsman (PG Steam Beats)

Sure, it's a simple A+B mashup. But I wanted an easy way to toss "The Scotsman" into my mix at @norwescon, and the original's an acapella, so why not add some backing beats from Peter Gabriel's "Steam"?

I debuted this one on Thursday at #NWC46 a couple months ago. Unfortunately, I saved it for what I thought would be peak time…and peak time never happened, so maybe (_maybe_) ten people heard this at con. But now you can hear it here!

This is just a bit of goofiness tossed together in a few minutes this afternoon. No real thought behind it other than the two songs were near each other and I noticed that they were about the same tempo and length...and, of course, didn't really go together at all.

@djwudi Already gone! Don't make it so easy for Youtube. xD
@moira Dammit. It passed the checks on upload. Grr.
@djwudi You have my every sympathy, YouTube hates art /Genuine

@moira It passed the initial checks, got two views, and then it looks like Mr. McCartney et al. (or, well, their lawyers, or well, the copyright bots) did their thing.

Ah, well. I'll find another way to get it posted. :)
