As part of our family commitment to reconciliation, we chose to attend Indigenous markets and events all summer (instead of Stampede) to directly support local Indigenous artists and performers. Today there’s an Indigenous market, films, and Elder a story event at Arts Commons for Orange Shirt Day.

Please support local Indigenous artists directly! Celebrate Indigenous artistry and brilliance as well as honouring their history, and remembering the children who never came home.

That's a great #RibbonSkirt! I managed to make myself a very rudimentary one, which was a personal commitment for 2023. Just wear it for #PowWow or #RoundDance. Also committed to attending several of each every year and supporting the vendors.
@EllenInEdmonton I got it from a lovely Indigenous woman at the Edmonton Art Gallery market during Taste of Edmonton. As a non-Indigenous person, I have asked several Indigenous women when it's okay to wear it. Apparently there is a National Ribbon Skirt Day in early January, honouring a little girl who was shamed for wearing her ribbon skirt to school--so I'll wear it that day as well as Orange Shirt Day.
