Really cool interactive play setup at the Imagine Children’s Museum in Everett, WA (30min north of #seattle) with overhead projector + I assume some depth camera that reacts to what the kids are doing with kinetic sand underneath! When you make a mountain it can turn into a volcano and the lava flow reacts to how you sculpt the sand #museum feels like tactile #videogames
@thatjaneng that children’s museum is one of best in the region, it really over delivers
@macjustice yeah we somehow only made it there THIS year and we have been twice and still each time I find a whole new thing that blows my mind. Staff is super quick on addressing “stuck packages” too 🤣
@thatjaneng DANG that's cool. I seem to remember Kinect cameras being used for a lot of this sort of museum stuff, turns out they work way better for this than they did for games
@ifixcoinops yeah I have only heard about these kind of applications and this one was so well done it completely blew my mind , I was just as excited as the kids!!
@thatjaneng ECHO in Burlington Vermont has a similar setup and it was so cool.
@thatjaneng I’ve seen smaller versions of this before but nothing this graceful, the flowing lava and the way it effects the water is such a lovely touch!
@idlemurmurs the whole table fits quite a few kids! It’s super well done

@thatjaneng the forests and grasslands!

what a playful way to engage with technology, it’s kind of making me want to pivot back to physical games and toys!

@thatjaneng

That's cool. I've seen a setup like this at PacSci but it didn't seem like it worked nearly this well.
