Have now migrated all my Hue and Zigbee devices away from the Hue app/bridge, to Zigbee2MQTT within HomeAssistant, combined with a USB Zigbee adapter.

Seems to work pretty well so far.

@danb I'm using #deconz / #phoscon for a couple of things but still using the hue bridge for hue bulbs. Any particular reason why you use ZigBee2MQTT?

@tmoe

I'm using ZigBee2MQTT (Plus USB Adapter) instead of Hue for the reasons well explained in this post:

https://www.home-assistant.io/blog/2023/09/22/philips-hue-force-users-upload-data-to-cloud/

(Better to move away now before they potentially update firmware to lock things down).

I chose ZigBee2MQTT as the alternative, compared to others, since I use MQTT for some of my custom devices already (and I've become fond of MQTT through that), and it seems like a well regarded & well-built solution.

[Update Oct 2: data sharing to become optional] Philips Hue will force users to upload their data to Hue cloud

To control your lights you soon need to create an account and share your data with the Hue cloud.
