e(Ag)leSo I threw my media library at Jellyfin, and I've discovered that not only does it have a pretty robust ecosystem of player apps, but it also seems to support "Special" seasons of shows better than Plex does. Sold!

Plex runs on a "freemium" model which makes its bugginess a lot less forgivable, let alone some of the features for premium licenses that have apparently been REMOVED over time.
@dragonarchitect I still have a lifetime Plex Pass even though I haven't touched Plex in years, yet I still get unreasonably annoyed when they remove features or paywall new ones.
It's also hilariously bad that the only person who can refresh the Plex libraries is the administrator, only one person can be the administrator, and, unlike Jellyfin, it doesn't automatically detect filesystem changes. Like c: How is this paid software?

Every feature that gets removed is a feature that no longer requires development hours.
Every new feature that gets paywalled is a feature that can bring in more revenue.
Delta Sierra@silvereagle I've been using Jellyfin for several years now, it's also very good with weird one-off episodes, bonus features/behind the scenes material, and similar stuff!

@silvereagle The big thing is mostly the "it just works"-ness of plex, and the fact that plex has up-to-date apps for basically every platform there is. I LOVE the idea of an open-source alternative dethroning them, but there's a few things that for-profit entities can do a little bit better :/
That being said, if I can get an android TV & phone client, plus a server that can run on windows or linux, and supports transcoding properly for chromecast support or whatever, I'm pretty set. The support for plex on basically any consumer NAS is kinda nice, tho.
