Even as he embarked on his mission to confront skeptical voices, Zelensky received a warm welcome inside the grand #UN chamber. But in a possible sign of the challenges he faces, he delivered his address to a ½ full house, w/many delegations declining to appear & listen to what he had to say.
“#MassDestruction is gaining momentum. The aggressor is weaponizing many other things & those things are used not only against our country, but against all of yours as well, fellow leaders,” #Zelensky said.

Although most #Democrats & a significant portion of #Republicans remain staunchly behind #Kyiv, the blowback among #HouseRepublicans may be enough to derail an effort to approve a supplemental package of aid for #Ukraine.

House “Speaker” #KevinMcCarthy has been vague about his plans for such a meeting, but implied Tues that one would take place during #Zelensky’s Thurs visit.

The continuing #economic & #military #support to #Ukraine is estimated to be ~$73B globally.

Over the course of his 15-min speech, Zelensky warned wavering leaders not to trust #Russia, which he said has sought to #exploit #divisions w/ #propaganda campaigns across #Africa, #LatinAmerica & parts of #Asia.

He sought to connect global #FoodShortages & rising #energy prices to #Russia’s aggression against his country, drawing a link between the conflict & some of the problems that leaders of less wealthy nations say are being ignored as the #UnitedStates & #Europe focus on dealing w/the conflict.

And he said that at a moment when #GlobalWarming is causing #drought, #ExtremeWeather & human #destruction, #humanity could scarcely deal w/a bloody #war of choice on top of it all.

“When all of this is happening, a #NaturalDisaster in #Moscow (#Putin) decided to launch a big war & kill tens of thousands of people. We have to stop it,” #Zelensky said, declaring that respect for the rule of #law & the #UN Charter was important to all nations, not just his own.

@Nonilex Hardly surprising Putin's Mar-A-Loco asset doesn't want self-defense aid for Ukraine to be a U.S. priority.
But has the former "GOP" also finalized its traitorous transition to being Putin's "Republican" fifth column?
