Spot on...
I like that observation: Monopoly already had Universal Basic Income (UBI) built into the game.
The picture of the Monopoly Board is indeed very telling.
@MichaelPorter @ianbetteridge @CStamp I played Monopoly once. When I was like, 8.
I thought it was the worst game ever, and couldn't imagine how anyone could find such an abomination enjoyable.
If anybody had told me at the time, actually this is how the real world is run.... I'd have kicked them in the nads on the spot.
@MichaelPorter @ianbetteridge @CStamp I think that was what got to me the most-- past a certain point you can pretty much tell who's going to win. Then you just spend round after round after round after round watching them gloat while you bleed, without hope.
And then in real life, the game never ends-- nobody wins, they just play till they die and then their kids inherit their money and properties and generation after generation goes around, and around, and around and I WANT TO SET THIS FUCKING BOX ON FIRE AND HURL IT OUT THE GODDAMN WINDOW.
@ianbetteridge It also has an angry rebellion mechanic- the classic “table-flip”!
I guess that’s a house-rule, but so is rebellion
Trump committed crimes against other members of the ruling class because he got high on his own propaganda and thought he was invincible. That is why he *might* face consequences.
@ianbetteridge In the new version, the players always lose, but a Chance card lets you start a revolution.
@LauraleeDukeshire @ianbetteridge It also simultaneously breaks the game, in that it allows for a perpetual draw in some games. There's money going into the system, but not enough money sinks that take money away from the players.
Example is the income tax, which caps out at $200, rather than allowing the 10% to go even higher.
@Lyle @ianbetteridge Worth reading the wiki article - there was apparently two rule sets - one for Monopoly and one for Prosperity.
