Just got my new COVID vaccination. Thank you, science. Screw you, Ron DeSantis.
And WTF, Aetna: You are not covering the booster (or the RSV vaccine)??? Don't tell me you care about our health. Shame on you.
I at least got the COVID shot without cost. Government paid. Thank you, Joe Biden.

@jeffjarvis I went to my local CVS Pharmacy to get it. They informed me they no longer accepted my health insurance (Kaiser) and that the vaccine will be $190 😮 Needles to say, I passed and will wait for Kaiser to offer it.

This crazy high cost will mean people without health insurance will not be getting this vaccine. This hurts all of us!

@krakalak @jeffjarvis
Ain’t capitalism grand?
@jeaton Yeah, this wouldn't happen in Freedonia 😜
@krakalak @jeffjarvis Just learned about the CDC's Bridge Access Program, CVS & Walgreens participate and will provide a free shot if insurance refuses to pay.
@krakalak @jeffjarvis Thank goodness we still have a NHS in the UK - I have just made an appointment for my free Covid & flu jab. Thank you science, thank you NHS & screw you #torycriminalsunfittogoven sho want to privatise the NHS.
@krakalak
The Walgreens I went to said the feds will cover it; it worked.
@krakalak @jeffjarvis There is apparently a gap program you can use if the insurance providers haven't got their heads out of their asses: https://mastodon.social/@laminda/111092416200501287
@jeffjarvis Getting mine in an hour and 45 minutes. 😎
@jeffjarvis Lucky you! I had an appointment for this afternoon but CVS cancelled it last night. I can't get it until Friday and it's not at my preferred location. Keeping my fingers crossed.

@jeffjarvis

Aetna and Amazon are teaming up to change your healthcare to telehealth.

And who’s behind it? The very same motherfucker who signed Britney Spears to a performance contract in Las Vegas in which she had no say, power or competence to perform without being drugged and stole millions from employees pension funds while nearly bankrupting Caesars - that inimitable asshole and piece of shit Gary Loveman.

@jeffjarvis I was under the impression that the ACA requires coverage of preventive care like vaccines. I wonder if either I am confused or they are.
@jeffjarvis I was getting the booster this week and ended up with Covid 🤬🤬🤬. Damn Florida. Luckily I'm healthy
@jeffjarvis this booster hits with a good solid kick to the arm. and body.
@jeffjarvis no regrets about getting it though

Aetna
@nitpicking
Well, the Walgreens system said Aetna would not pay. The pharmacist treid everything and it was quite specific: Not covered.

@jeffjarvis

And Walgreens is wrong. You'll get reimbursed. So Aetna says.

@jeffjarvis

I happened to see this in the Washington Post just now:

"Under federal law, any coronavirus vaccine must be covered by private and public insurers immediately, as soon as it receives sign-off by the FDA."

did RDS complete one of these for himself & every member of his family? seem to me that if he doesn't trust medical science to protect them he couldn't trust medical science to save them.

@jeffjarvis @briankrebs We have Aetna; what is the cost I should expect to pay Sunday when we get our shots?
@bradpatrick @jeffjarvis @briankrebs
CALL AETNA! Even if you both have the same insurance company, there are a WIDE variety of policies, and yours may be vastly different from his. Additionally, the lack of coverage was probably an error, as Aetna states that there is $0 out of pocket for COVID vaccines & boosters: https://www.aetna.com/individuals-families/member-rights-resources/need-to-know-coronavirus/vaccines.html

Whenever you have an unexpected charge, call your insurance! There's a decent chance something went wrong (provider didn't submit claim, provider didn't submit claim correctly, insurance didn't process correctly, insurance denied it incorrectly, appeal wasn't submitted, etc). I had to call about a $340 blood test today. Provider didn't submit the claim (and lied about not having ins details on file when I called them).

@bradpatrick @jeffjarvis @briankrebs
And, yes, some of those "provider errors" are due to insurance having convoluted requirements. Tricare is the worst! But Tricare also has decent phone support if you call as a customer (providers have to wait on hold forever), so just call.

Actually, UHC is probably the *worst*, but they're just movie-villain style Evil, whereas Tricare is military red tape convoluted.

Aetna & BCBS tend to be on the better end of easy to deal with.

@bradpatrick @briankrebs
Have the government cover it. Otherwise between $1-200

@jeffjarvis

#insurance companies do not care about YOU -they care about the premiums you pay them.

@jeffjarvis we do not have any covid vaccine in maryland right now. None of the pharmacies have received shipments nor information about when to schedule patients. But vaccine.gov continues to show pharmacies have it and lead you through scheduling only to drop you as the last action. This is a botched rollout and for immunocompromised folks [and us "old people" as they indicate in the tick box] not good at all.
