I've got a class who are going outside today to take data on local stream ecology and biodiversity. Each group is choosing a testing location - is there a good way (app or otherwise) to drop a pin based on location services so we can find that location again in 5 weeks +/- half a meter?

Using GPS with enhancement overlay (WAAS / EGNOS) active and synchronised should give roughly a 2m uncertainty to standard deviation. To get a tighter relative fix, triangulate to immovable features on the opposite bank of the stream, (you'd probably want to use a sextant to do this).

Marwe@brianb dm or cm-accuracy is impossible with phone hardware, especially outside where no routers are :)
You need either an Egnos or RTK capable, external receiver for that. You can generate a quick form with #kobotoolbox and add a photo option there.
#QField projects for proper GIS workflows are possible, but need preparation in the office with #QGIS, at least a base and point layer.
