Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal - Longtermism

@jcutting @ZachWeinersmith very accurate. The tech bros have much in common with some boomers in this respect - an inflated sense of entitlement and being more important than anyone else. I once overheard in a restaurant "if these kids today wanted what we had, they should have been born in the 50s"... geniuses of logic they were not.

@DrPlanktonguy

I'm not clever enough to turn the phrase but there's something to the First Nation quote "We don't inherit the earth. We borrow it from our children." Boomers and techbros heard that and decided to abuse the earth like it was a rental car with full coverage. 'That means someone else is responsible for it and I don't have to pay, so I'm going to have fun trying to blow out the engine.'

@DrPlanktonguy @jcutting @ZachWeinersmith Pretty embarrassing for a scientist to generalize from N=1, I think. My non-scientific hunch is that entitlement is uniformly distributed but there's lots of selection bias (and resentment) driving these kind of comments.

@ZachWeinersmith You may have crossed the Darkness-at-Noon-line, making the viewpoint you're trying to criticise a little too attractive.
