There should be a Music Strike for a year. No new music released, just promotion of old back catalogues / reprints to encourage further and deeper digging - also now this older music will have sunk in a bit & be able to reviewed afresh. This started off as a bit of a throwaway joke but… obviously I don’t mean #RecordStoreDay revamps of Pink Floyd or whatever but just albums that appeared, got good reviews and then sold less than a 1000 copies before sinking under the tide of the release schedule
The ‘sinking in’ bit is crucial & crucially missed; newness in all its forms is insidious & perhaps harmful; so many great little releases over past 20 years or so that just exploded & then almost immediately disappeared from view so only those very hip to the trends gained access.
So, a deep dive into #KemilliasetYstavat or #HackerFarm or #Ekoplekz or #sunburnedhandoftheman or early #Gabba or #Circle or even #Comus or #FourTet or #VenetianSnares etc - but mostly music that sneaks between the cracks, that should have sold by the 1000s but ended up getting wild reviews and selling to just 300 cool kids…
@REEL There also has been music that was released between, say, 2006-2012 that's in danger of disappearing altogether, caught in a void between the decline in CD sales and the 'vinyl revival'. I know of a club tune that seems to have disappeared into thin air despite several searches; it got airplay on at least one radio station though physical sales must have been very low. This was on Spotify for a while but has now also vanished from there as far as I can tell. Discogs draws a blank as well.
