I'm getting really tired of seeing these "I hate video tutorials" posts getting boosted into my feed. Here's a particularly bad example:

Are video tutorials over-used? Yes. Should a text tutorial also be provided? Yes. Are video tutorials a bad thing? ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NO!
In spite of having a PhD in math, being a senior software engineer, and being someone who's generally considered quite fluent in written english, there is no worse way for me to consume information than long-winded prose. I'm probably somewhat dyslexic, I'm definitely ADHD, and I probably have something else that may or may not have a name. The end result of my cocktail is that I really easily get lost in a pile of text, even if it is well-organized. The rise of video tutorials has been a god-send.
Have a recipe? I'd much rather a 60s TikTok video over a long-winded blog post with 30 pages of stories about your Italian grandmother as front-matter and a recipe at the end. I'd rather a TikTok video than a short, straightforward recipe without all the crap. The video is straight-up better for me.
So next time you're tempted to boost that shit, please take a moment and think about it and then don't. Thanks.
