Going to dye some #wool today. I can tell by the angle of the sun the #mulberry leaves will start to fade soon. So, I'm dropping everything to get this done before I don’t! I'm NOT ready for autumn! 😫 #dyeing #fiberarts
I am glad I heeded the advice to simmer the leaves outside. Stinky! 😜 #Dyeing
So, 30 minutes or so of simmering the #mulberry leaves and then I'm just going to turn the stove off and let it sit there.
Now I'm #scouring raw #wool in small batches of 2 to 3 ounces at a time, for a total of approximately 8 ounces.
After the scoured #wool has been rinsed and squeezed out, I mixed a #mordant bath of about 20% alum (aluminum sulfate) to the weight of fiber, submerged my wet fiber in the mordant bath, and I'm keeping it all heated to around 180Β°F for 45 minutes.
My luck it will come out some shade of puce green. 🀒
I think it's safe to say it's freaking yellow! 🀣🀯
It's hot today, so the #wool will dry fast. I rinsed it 5 or 6 times, dye was still coming out. Not sure what color yellow I would call this? πŸ€”
Okay, all combed and dizzed into #roving. #wool

@SandHillThicket the first thing that comes to mind are spring chicks and daffodils.
