I’m late to the party but congratulations to the Indian Space Agency for being the fourth country to land on the moon.

The trip cost $75 million which is cheaper than a bunch of Hollywood movies about going to space including Gravity & Interstellar.

The space race is back.

Chandrayaan-3 budget: India just landed on the Moon for less than it cost to make Interstellar

Some houses cost less than Indian space agency spent on getting to the Moon

@carnage4life

And their Mars mission cost $74 million bucks. Not a typo!

And look at the scientists in their mission control room. Just look at it!

We can have space without space billionaires.

Putting all our eggs in the Elon basket is a choice, and not a good one.

@mekkaokereke @carnage4life Eeyupp.
I mean $74M does barely pay 2,5 Proton rockets, so it's not as if that's much considering one is needed alone for that thing and scientific missions never get the scalability bonuses of commercial aerospace like most satellite providers.

Speaking of Satellite Providers:
#Iridium replaced their aging fleet in 2019 at a cost of $2,8B and those were just 77 in-orbit + 9 ground spares that were sent to space literally in 6-packs and that covers the entire globe.

@kkarhan @mekkaokereke @carnage4life This is why I *really* don't get the fanboi squeeing over #Starlink. It's literally the worst possible way to do telecoms via satellite, and is downright dangerous.

@Syulang @mekkaokereke @carnage4life Also to achieve the [compareably low] latencies and high speeds, he literally needed to litter the low earth orbits with a shitton of satellites so low orbited that they'll need to be replaced constantly due to Exosperic drag making them re-enter...

It would've been more reasonsable to lay down fiber links across Antarctica between research stations or upgrading Iriidum instead, but that would've been easy and boring.

@kkarhan @mekkaokereke @carnage4life Creating 40,000 pieces of space junk and a kessler cascade is totes worth it for L3eT G@m3R latency, bruh. It's so stupid on so many different levels I don't even know where to start

@Syulang @mekkaokereke @carnage4life *nodds in agreement*

And it's not even competitive with my shitty cable in terms of price, performance, service and support.

And it never can be, because unlike #FTTH and direct coaxial cables or shielded Ethernet, it's a #SharedMedium like any #MobilePhoneNetwork.

Also sending that shit to space literally required millions of tons of fossil fuels and released equivalent amounts of #CO2...

All that for the rechnical equivalent of a sandcastle in space!
