Today brought the end of the #IUPACCHAINS2023 international #chemistry conference in The Hague. A bit different from the usual NWO CHAINS event, as it incorporated the 2023 IUPAC international meeting. As a result, we also had nice contributions from chemists across the globe. Lots of interesting talks, posters and especially also personal interactions - with both familiar faces and new ones. The breadth of topics was impressive, allowing for inspiration and collaboration across disciplines...

I personally was also very pleased with the focus session I chaired on Monday (and not just because of the gift of stroopwafels), on the topic of #amyloid protein detection and targeting. The three speakers presented cool and inspiring work on proteins related to #Huntington's, #Parkinson's and #Alzheimer's diseases. From my own group, we had PhD student Raffaella Parlato give a nice talk on her own work (related to #Huntington's) in the structural biology session on Wed.

A notable not-directly-chemistry talk was the plenary by Timothy Caulfield [email protected] , who talked about misinformation, science and society…. (Vaccines, climate change and more) #scicomm

I also enjoyed the PI meeting organized by the NWO chemistry table, with lively discussions and useful information for Dutch chemistry research group leaders.

In summary - a successful and inspiring meeting. Now we wait for CHAINS 2024! #chains2024
