I remain troubled by the verdict in this case, it feels to me as if there are many unanswered questions.
There is a lot of circumstantial evidence pointing towards Letby. There is also the distraction of senior management performance.
I am more interested in the operations within the neonatal care unit, which run as quite self contained services. What reviews and internal investigations happened after each death? If she was suspected, what did nurse management and colleagues do 1/2
What we're the clinical conclusions and how were procedures changed? I find it difficult to understand how fellow nurses and nurse managers allowed this to escalate unless:
a) this was a very poorly performing unit
b) they had a sequence of tragic complex cases that went wrong.
This does not mean that Letby did not kill the babies. However, I feel uneasy about aspects of the case.
