Also, because I've started it on the Other Place, here's a thread of books I've read during 2023. First one down:

#2023books #books #kindle #ebook #solaris #lem #stanislawlem #sciencefiction #bookstodon

2023: book twenty-eight. #books #bookstodon #yasunarikawabata #thelake
@captainfez I’m close to finishing this one. It’s wonderful.
@colorblindcowboy SO GOOD. I’m glad I finally did it.
@captainfez OOOH will I hate it?
@elzbethmrgn is kind of like an examination of authorship and race and is full of publishing and editing info, and ptsd. I really liked it. Wasn’t looking forward to it - is a work book club choice - but blew through it today. Fun and bitchy.
@captainfez I didn't like Babel because the Colonialism is Bad and you should feel Bad was as subtle and nuanced as an anvil, so I have avoided Yellowface
@elzbethmrgn Review posting now!
@captainfez FINE I'LL BE PATIENT
@elzbethmrgn You'll be happy to know that my psych (who read the first Three-Body book years ago and prompted me to look them up) told me she fucking hated the first book and thus never read the rest of them. Stan a queen, etc etc.)
@captainfez I have long made peace with abandoning shit that doesn't spark joy (unless I'm hate-reading in order to gather receipts )
@elzbethmrgn Dai Shi kept me going and then it was stubbornness. I couldn't believe writing so patchy had a fucking three-book series.
@elzbethmrgn (Also, wouldn't be surprised if this stemmed from some of the discussion around Babel- this is a lot lighter, weirdly for something written about The Real World.)
