MCDuncanLabWelcome! I'm reading book 8 of Malazan Book of the Fallen series.
I do not recommend the series at all. I'm only reading it because my partner highly recommended it. After book 2, I realized I hated his writing style, but now I want to figure out what the heck he thought was so important to write 10 ungodly long poorly written books about it, and why so many people like it.
CurtAdams@MCDuncanLab @faye The last books of the Malazan series aren't that different. A few more "bad guys are good guys and good guys are bad guys" twists and that's it. It does, at least, resolve satisfactorally.
I really liked the first book but after that it got too bleak. I'm not really sure why I drove myself to finish the entire series.
I blame my persistence on the pandemic. I started the series when we were still in the tail end of the lockdown, and I wanted something to fill the time. But then worked kicked in and I've been slow about finishing the series and even read a couple of N. K. Jemisin series in the interim. I've loved everything of hers that I've read.
I'd say this book is better than a lot in the series, I think because there is more character development and less action.
