🇳🇱 Apparently they are going to make blue hydrogen instead of grey hydrogen in Rotterdam.

The captured CO2 is going to the Porthos project. That project is going to pump 2,5 million ton CO2 per year down into an old gas field. Quite a lot.

What do we think of that? Blue is better than grey, but green would have been even better.

CO2 reduction through storage under the North Sea - Porthos

What is Porthos? Porthos is developing a project to transport COâ‚‚ from industry in the Port of Rotterdam and store this in empty gas fields under the North Sea. Porthos stands for Port of Rotterdam COâ‚‚ Transport Hub and Offshore Storage. The Netherlands has clear climate objectives: the emission of greenhouse gases must be reduced by at least 55% in 2030 […]

The cool thing with empty gas fields is that we can drill 3000 metre down below the sea.

Humanity have the technology to see that there is a gas field that deep (or an empty one in this case). That alone is fairly impressive.

We also have the technology to drill all the way down there and pump stuff up or down. While there are tens or hundreds of metre sea water above it.
