1st time Kveik...

So here's the plan:
4kg pilsner malt, mash for ~60 minutes, then 30 minute boil with 20g Warrior hops, and throw in however much Hallertau Mittelfrüh hops I have at the end.

Cool to 40C, transfer to plastic conical, and pitch Kveik and try to hold above 30C.

Skim some yeast off and dry it in oven tomorrow.

Easy.

I've been reading Kveik will brew at lower temperature, so let's see, in the end it'll be beer.

Seems I ordered Pale Ale malt not Pilsner 🤔
Grinding and waiting for water to come to my mash temperature.

Mashing... Smells good.

Little bit of rain passing over.

Wiring up the temperature controller and heater band.
Haven't used either in years.
Hope they still work.

Need to scavenge a power lead from somewhere in the garage.

Seems to be working.

Tweaking the settings and leaving it to see if the band warms up.

So that wasn't the right way to wire it up.
Quick duckduckgo search and I've figured it out.

Have figured out I've got not Hallertau Hops 🤦
Think this Pils is changing into an IPA.
Probably add 30g Warrior at flame out, then do some dry hopping later.
Cooling... Just added 30g Warrior at ~80C
Rehydrating the Kveik in some pre-chilled wort
Mixed in... #Brewbrain isn't working, website is down.
Hope they haven't gone bankrupt.

Of course I put the wrong probe into the thermo-well.
Fixed it.
My panzer tape was melting on the heater band... Re-wrapped it to the frame and fermentor.

Already bubbling.
Temp gradually rising.
I've set it between 35C --> 38C

So having got back from enjoying BBQ and a few beers at my buddy's place, I found the temperature at 40C and the heater still on.

It turns out on my controller, the sensor 1 and stator 1 work with display 2 🤦🤔😂

I've swapped it back to the way I had earlier and it's working.

The #Kveik is strongly fermenting now

Woke up this morning with the intention of harvesting me some #kveik.
#Brewbrain has started working and it's showing me 1°P... 🤔

There's still air lock activity but the Krausen has dropped and the beer is nearly finished 🤣

I guess I'm going to need to harvest the trub, and pitch another wort onto it to try again.

Ah. Of course. Voss is usually bottom harvested. I forgot..

I think I was just too slow... It had a fat krausen after 12 hours, but then fermentation was finished inside 24 hours 😬😳

It's settling out now, and there's a thick white yeast layer visible on the trub, when it compacts to about 1 liter I'm going to put it in a jug and try again.

The #Kveik liked the starter...
