Yes. This is first class. I bagged an £11 upgrade via #Seatfrog and I’m pretty sure that I’ve consumed that much already in coffee, food and gin.

@mdonkin was curious how you had a mug

@repeattofade And now I’ve got a *real* glass!

From a practical point of veiw, these have particulary heavy bottoms – presumably to stop them tipping over when we go round bends.

Having said that, these trains aren’t pendelinos – they don’t need to be as, prior to privetisation, much of the #EastcoastMainline was upgraded and curves were banked, so titling is unnecessary.

@mdonkin And GIN???

I must check that app out.

@mkivinen @mkivinen Yes. LNER First Class is excellent value. It’s not just a nice seat. Occasionally, some of their trains are ‘dry’. This is usually at the request of the police (e.g. if there is a football match on). Here’s today’s lunch and drinks menu https://www.lner.co.uk/globalassets/downloads/pdf/menus/lner2068-deli-may-2023-lner-100-menu-online-updated-v5.pdf
@mdonkin Oh, I do remember now! I have once travelled LNER, it was marvellous! "We've been expecting you, Ms. Kivinen", they greeted me, as if I was a VIP-celebrity-god (and no, I wasn't even late). But no gin, though, just wine. Or maybe I was too shy to order, not believing it's free.
@mkivinen Reminds me of the time I booked first class back to York for mum’s birthday. It was her fist time she’d been first class anywhere. She was worried that we’d done something wrong as she had her finger over the ‘1st’ on her ticket. She then started fumbling for her purse when the tea came round. As soon as the crew were aware that it was her birthday *and* first time in first class, they treated her like a queen. It was all so cute. She still talks about it.

@mdonkin Aww, such a beautiful story!

I think the previous generation really appreciates the small luxuries we have learned to take for granted (admittedly, some of us later in life, but still).
