Whack that both my bosses have made comments about me leaving in a year. Then I talked to my recruiter to ask what the process is like to move jobs within my contracting company and they were incredibly open about all the info.

Super happy it seems any transition will go super smoothly. I don't want to be a contractor, but if I can expect a $5/hr raise pretty regularly and tailored mobility, I can probably get used to it.

I'd also like to talk about the weird #gamification of #techjobs

A Bachelor's degree == 4 years experience
#Comptia Certificate == 1 year experience

At least for my state government

So I'm going to get my #networkplus and #securityplus this year. I already have my #Aplus in addition to hobby server work and side IT and organizing work.

My recruiter confirmed that I will qualify for a standardized job within my state if I get all those certs plus some because of my hobbies.

But we all agree that that's not really how college and certificates work right? My #homelab is very much more useful in terms of knowledge acquisition than a bunch of certs.

I don't know anyone who gives a shit about certs other than execs and insurance agencies. But it is kinda nice that it's super easy to get into tech with no prior experience because of this qualification checklist.

So IDK if feels like a very simple system and I like it. Certainly a perk in this industry.

I like this way more than the professional networking hell I was trying to break into when I was studying to do #archive work and #libraryscience
@Nagaram oh that's a path I had never considered, but sound interesting. What types of things were you studying for Archive work? Cheers.

@Elegast123 I was working on a history degree with a minor in computer science. And I was in talks with the head Archivist at the special collections library I worked at to be sponsored to go to Maryland University to get a Public History degree. I wanted to do digitization and database work.

It was a cool idea but then Covid hit and I nearly died of Crohn's disease. So I decided to drop out of school and go back to tech where my heart seems to truly live. Still might get back to a library.
