Question for more experienced mastodon users:

How does one post a series of messages which are related to each other ? Usually they are numbered. Is there an accepted etiquette for this on the network?

@tchauhan You can post them as replies so that they make a thread, and if you want you can number them. (I use "n" if I don't know how long it'll be, like 1/n, 2/n, n/n.)

One piece of etiquette when posting a super duper long thread: consider making the first post public and the rest "unlisted." (In the web interface, the globe icon means public and the open padlock means unlisted). This way the local timeline shows the first post but not all 50 posts in the megathread.

@tchauhan
I don't actually have anything else to say beyond that, just figured I might as well make a threaded reply :)

@asvhl This is super duper helpful! Thank you very much. To confirm: the first post is public; all subsequent posts are numbered replies to the first one, and are set to unlisted ?
