It's so depressing that Google is now effectively useless for me as a search engine.

Highlighted perfectly for me this morning after I watched a TikTok video (https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSLXLxksm/) which made me wonder...

Does #yodelling use #circularBreathing?

And the Google results for this question are *utterly* useless.

So... Does anyone here know? Boosts welcome.

TikTok - Make Your Day

@phil_tanner I tried DuckDuckGo and each result seemed to be for either circular breathing or yodelling, not both, which is a clue though not conclusive.

Reading the Wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yodeling it describes techniques involved but makes no mention of circular breathing so I'm feeling like it's not a feature at least of the Alpine tradition, though potentially there could be traditions elsewhere in the world that merge the two techniques.

I don't *know* though...

Yodeling - Wikipedia

@zeborah that was my feeling too.

And yet ... That TikTok I linked to... Her lung capacity must be superhuman if she's not doing something of that sort, right??

@phil_tanner The staccato nature of parts of the yodel would help a lot, and there are a few spots in that tune with room for quick breaths. There are even some notes which *almost* sounded ingressive (breathing in on the note itself) but I'm very unsure about that. Don't know; could be. Amazing lung capacity and control either way!
@phil_tanner circular breathing produces continuous airflow from the musician's mouth but not through the rest of the vocal tract, so I don't see how it could be applied to yodelling.
@phil_tanner not circular breathing exactly, but there's another vocal technique, called eephing or eefing, where they vocalize on the inhale as well as the exhale: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75qIdhCO2DQ
