Every time I listen to "Shine", I can't help but hear the lyrics through a trans lens, even though I know that's not what the song is about.
It always sounds to me like someone being afraid:
• to admit to themselves that they were trans
• of what would happen to themselves if they did
& that, all this time, they could have walked away from their old, pre-transition identity & survived.
