It is such a no-brainer for media, academic & govt orgs to own their identity AND platform on social media. Nothing really beats "user@domain".
Here's my offer:
I will provide free managed hosting to any Indian media org (or any other type of institution) who wants to set up their own fediverse instance, like BBC did.

@nilesh Happy to help with this effort. Takahe would be ideal for this, but will help in any way I can.
I’ve thought about doing a similar thing, but I am worried by the moderation burden that would come with such an effort. Just delegating it to the org might not necessarily work.
@nemo My plan is to use #gotosocial which is more lightweight. Also complete isolation per-domain seems simpler and preferable than using Takahe's multi-domain capability.
Good point about moderation burden. But at least with formal organizations, there's structure and incentives in place. Here I'm not planning to serve open communities at all.

But it's a resource intensive, if all independent media work together it might be the right choice.
@nilesh please don’t do that for free. It erodes the value of the #Fediverse and the people that put their valuable time in to running instances.
Instead offer to run it for free for a set trial period (say one year) and communicate a profitable price for the period after the trial period. For commercial media (those that pay themselves and others on the income of running it) we currently charge a flat fee of 150 euro (ex VAT) a month.

… but it is quite good value for quality. For that price we can also keep it running if it gets hit by a lot of visitors or if the connected #Fediverse grows 10 times the size it is now.
Personally I also think it is very important that you run those instances on infrastructure that is built on the same values the Fediverse is built on, which is what we do: so as much #opensource as possible, as independent from #BigTech and as #Sustainable and #Transparant as possible.
