#myindiegameofthemonth July'23 was once again from #Ukraine - #ErraExordium by #fairpixel (https://www.fairpixel.com/) who are 4 people including programmer @maxim whos Mastodon account I can link here 😀
It's a 2D adventure platformer in Dieselpunk setting, but with a twist. The game had Demo on steam and early access, so you can already buy it and play at least few hours.

Erra: Exordium

Erra Exordium pixel dieselpunk action game inspired by sumero-akkadian mythology. 2d, side view, Pixelart, Action, Adventure with Platformer and Puzzle elements

First things first, if you enjoy 2D adventure/platformer games - wishlist or get an early access right away. It's a beautiful and athentic game with soul, an indie gem imho. And it was partially crowdfunded on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fairpixel/erra-exordium-2d-pixel-art-dieselpunk-action-adventure
Erra: Exordium — 2D pixel art dieselpunk action adventure

Break through hordes of infected Mechatrons in the dieselpunk world inspired by sumero-akkadian culture

Kickstarter
Erra: Exordium is a game in Dieselpunk setting heavily influenced by a Sumerian-Akkadian mythology, which is already quite unusual and feels new and exotic. The world reminds me of the "I, robot" with Will Smith that also didn't end well, but more mystical.
First thing that stroke me is visual style. It's very authentic, the style is consistent, showing the developed civization similar to ours but if it was developed from the Akkadian Empire with religous dominance in culture of that time. It's believable.
The next thing is attention to detail. Apart of the main gameplay which I will cover next you can turn on/off the lights, lamps and even turn on gas stove. This is a strong sign of love and passion in the foundation of an indie team.
The gamplay is slow compared to what I usually experience in 2D action games, mixed with simple puzzles and short fights. There are already plenty of differnet enemies with diverse mechanics. You can block attacks, have cold weapon and firearms. Fights are not really forgiving, you can die easily in the game, but they are satisfying.
Puzzles probably won't make you stuck. Usually it's to find A to activate B to open C. Once there was a riddle, that I solved on paper and was a bit proud to get it fast, but than saw that the solution was literally painted on the wall 🥲
Erra feels related to souls-like games. There are a lot of unexpected traps, enemies coming from nowhere that kill you, and it feels like you need to know about it to survive. Like once I come to trigger the mine, went back, but there appeared a turret 🥲
Atmoshpere and story-telling is a strong side of the game. The game tries to tell it visually, with letters and memories, with every possible medium. You can see the remnants of once great empire that vanished in a moment
I finished the early access version availabe today in 2.5 hours, and found only 1 minor bug. So the quality of the game is very good. I loved all of it, and got my favorite achievement in Steam
I can't empasize enough how gorgeous this game looks. This is one of my most expected indie games and I recommend it to eveybody interested in 2D games, discovering ancient civilizations or simply wanting to try something different.
This game might not be easy for casual gamers, but I am sure difficulty levels is something that can pop up later, as well as different modes. I would enjoy also some battle challenges with progressive difficulty to train blocking and just fighting.
I tried tha game before, when there was just a demo and I see how game is becomming better. So, kudos to
#FairPixel
