So many reasons for forbidding deep sea mining, but I think one of the biggest is also least discussed: accountability. Yes, some mines on land are bad, but we can look, check, demand explanations. In the deep sea, it’s incredibly hard to track actions/impacts. If miners behave badly when seen, how badly will they behave when invisible? #ocean https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2023/jul/27/james-cameron-supports-deep-sea-mining-activists-say-its-a-disaster-whos-right?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
James Cameron supports deep-sea mining. Scientists say it’s a huge risk. Who’s right?

Better the seafloor than the rainforest, proponents argue, but marine experts beg to differ as authorities meet to decide the future of deep-sea mining

@helenczerski tl;dr why should anyone care what James Cameron thinks. Also, how much has he invested in the project? #FollowtheMoney

Equating Mr Cameron with scientists is like comparing poop with gold.
@helenczerski The guy who made The Terminator clearly understands science. /s

"A billionaire who wants more billions says it's okay. Scientists say it's not. But we have to ask who's right because, 'both sides'."

Excellent point, I totally agree with you! Trust must be earned. #DeepSeaMiningMoratorium
@helenczerski exactly…out of sight out of mind.
