This is a find-your-people post for TTRPG folk.

Please respond by saying what sorts of TTRPG things you're *pretty likely* to either talk about or respond to if you see them.

This can be a list of games (D&D! Tribe 8! Fate!) or categories (the weirdest of indie stuff! NSR! Anything PBtA!), topics (Worldbuilding! Publishing!), stuff you're making, meta-commentary (The State Of The Industry), and so on.

Then maybe share, and if the replies are building up, check them for new people.

@rweston @chgowiz @LeviKornelsen #greyhawk was/is a wonderful mess and the cannonfire discord is a great community filled with a lot of people who just want to share and help each other enjoy gaming
@rweston @chgowiz @LeviKornelsen I'm pretty sure ampersands don't work in hashtags, but I do like #DnD35 #DnD35e #PF1 #PF1e ! Of all the editions, they come closest to my ideal D&D. Though it still seems possible to do better...

@LeviKornelsen

not necessarily my primary subject, but i am super interested in:

- A5E (Level Up)
- WOIN (What's Old Is New)
- solo TTRPGs
- lyric RPGs
- worldbuilding (all kinds of)
- interesting mechanics (for any game)
- stealing RPG mechanics for use in very "unrelated" life domains, and stealing unrelated tools/concepts from other life domains for use in RPGs.
- anything esoteric/weird/theory-ish WRT TTRPGs

@LeviKornelsen What about " all of the above?"

@LeviKornelsen admittedly I talk about other things too, but:
TTRPG stuff:
Mostly #OSR, #NSR, also #RuneQuest occasionally, I boost some stuff outside those realms if they look fun, and some stuff about #TTRPGDesign and my own game The Years of Adventure.

TTRPG adjacent:
#Worldbuilding, #fantasy (books mostly!) and #AncientHistory, and I’ll boost tons of other TTRPG or adjacent creators (I.e. artists that post stuff that sparks the imagination even if not TTRPG specific)

@LeviKornelsen
I'm a huge fan of world building. I watch every video put out by Hello Future Me, and I was giddy when I found out Keith Baker was on Mastodon.
@nemo
Tim Hickson isn't on Mastodon, is he?

@DMWolffy

To my knowledge, no.

@LeviKornelsen

Systems:
- #DnD
- #Breathless and other simple SRD (up to 4 pages)

Topics:
- initiation with newcomers and youngs
- worldbuiding and system building
- TTRPGs jam and short projects

@mimic @LeviKornelsen if you like simple SRDs, you might like to take a look at my #Retrospective SRD - it’s on itch, and on my own site here https://planesailinggames.com/games/retrospective-srd/
Retrospective SRD

This is my SRD (system reference document) for producing ‘retrospective games’. A style of story game where you are looking back at the lives of the protagonists and exploring their relationships, successes, and failures along the way.

@LeviKornelsen

I hack away at a #SciFi game that is pretty freeform but grounded in a variant of the Year Zero Engine.

I blog infrequently 👼

@Kobiac @LeviKornelsen I like talking about ttrpg layout and design too
@PlaneSailingGames @Kobiac @LeviKornelsen are you one those kerning weirdos?

@dampscot @PlaneSailingGames

Who, me? Nah, not that advanced yet. I'm leaning into indents, though. 🤭

@Kobiac @dampscot @LeviKornelsen

I might sometimes meddle with kerning for a title effect, but by and large I pick fonts which have got kerning pretty much sorted out 😊

@LeviKornelsen

Well, I'm kinda interested in exploring more of what the tabletop industry IS nowadays in general! That includes seeing weirdo indies pop up, learning about changes in design paradigms, discussing the benefits and flaws of older systems, learning more about how streamed play is affecting design and marketing decisions, etc.

Maybe i'll eventually start posting about the game I'm trying to design, too.

Err, one of the games I'm trying to design.

We'll see what we see I guess.

@KeroZelvin

Ooh 13A2e is coming that will be good.
@LeviKornelsen

@Homebrewandhacking @KeroZelvin @LeviKornelsen I was in a play test campaign for the updated rules. I like the changes to the icon system. Overall it is iterative rather than radical in change. I think the classic 13th age modules will work fine with 2.0. (In fairness, I was a player, not GM in that game!)

@KeroZelvin

Ah well. It is a very solid framework to build off. I wonder if they fixed bard...

@LeviKornelsen

@Homebrewandhacking @KeroZelvin @LeviKornelsen Bard is one of the classes that wasn't released in the Alpha playtest packet. It'll receive updates, but we've yet to see what they are. #13thAge

@phantom_tim @KeroZelvin

I look forward to the updates.

13th Age is a weird one for me. Wouldn't play a bard, loved playing a wizard. The opposite of most games.

@Homebrewandhacking 13th Age is a weird one for me too! I usually avoid game systems like the escalation die that require constantly changing the math as you play. For some reason, the way they do it in #13thAge works for me.

It helps move things forward so you don’t get multiple combat rounds of everyone missing as the odds get better after several rounds. It is my go to for heroic fantasy, though I do play more nsr/Osr overall.

@Homebrewandhacking I also love how icon rolls can spin the narrative in unexpected ways! It is an interesting mechanic that can really add depth to the story. (Especially if your GM is up to running with that sort of change / chaos impacting their world.)

@KeroZelvin

There is a lot to be said for that game! Also for getting a GIANT dice and plonking it down and shouting "ESCALATION!"

I'm a big fan of encouraging and getting my players to engage in rowdiness at my gaming table. It's a safe space to. :)

Helps with varying the pacing as well.

@KeroZelvin @Homebrewandhacking 13th Age has a lot going for it. Plenty of stuff that's pretty easy to steal and incorporate elsewhere. Icons, for example, are a great concept for building out any kind of grand guignol setting -- high fantasy, space opera, planetary romance.

I also really like the semi-decoupling of equipment and stats. Players are going to optimize, might as well just get the crunch out of the way.

@LeviKornelsen I'm most likely to talk about the #WorldOfDarkness (esp. #VampireTheMasquerade) but also related stuff, like #ChroniclesOfDarkness sometimes. Lots of #PoweredByTheApocalypse and #BladesInTheDark #ForgedInTheDark too. #Planescape #DarkSun #AlienRPG

I _want_ to chat #LegendOfThe5Rings #Kult #BluePlanet #DeltaGreen #UnknownArmies #SinRPG #HeartRPG #DuneRPG but I gotta admit I'm lax on those fronts.

Maybe some #Shadowrun sneaks in, too.

@LeviKornelsen (also, my plan post-#GenCon is to actually take the time to re-organize my gaming shelves, and take that as an excuse to do a little tour through what I’ve got and why they're all worth keeping - I hope)

@frequentbeef @LeviKornelsen I'm absolutely here to chat about #Unknownarmies and I'm excitedly following the development of the new edition of #blueplanet.

I've not run the latter, but my two UA campaigns to date have been some of the best gaming I've ever been part of.

@Eclecticon yeah, both games are amazing and, perhaps serendipitously or ironically, they're both among the most intimidating RPGs to run, at least for me. Not because of any mechanical complexity, but just because the worlds are so rich and I want to live up to that. Delta Green is the third that has that looming weight on it, for me.
@frequentbeef I took the UA cosmology and magic system, and stripped everything else, sourcebooks, scenarios, whatever, for parts. I strung 'Green Glass Grail' out into a full campaign. It was glorious.

@LeviKornelsen I'm mainly known for blogging/writing about #DnD #DnD5E, but in terms of what I'm playing, I've been branching out into #CypherSystem and #CourtOfBlades and am also keenly interested in trying out #HauntedWest, #BladesInTheDark, #KidsOnBikes and #Fiasco, among others.

I do almost all my work solo. Collaboration would be a nice change.

I'm way out of the industry loop—like, I can't even see it from where I am—so I don't talk about the State of Things much. But I listen, closely.

@KeithAmmann

IDK if you're actually interested in a podcast but that's why I'm bizarrely well-informed.

Homebrew and Hacking

@Homebrewandhacking @LeviKornelsen There are so many good podcasts in the world, and I just don't get to listen to them, because (a) I don't commute to work, and (b) my work consists almost entirely of reading and writing, and I can't listen to other people talking while I do either of those things. 🙁

I try to carve out time each week to listen to @MasteringDnD, and that's pretty much my limit.

@LeviKornelsen Neglected to mention that I'm keeping a very close eye on the #OneDnD proposals and responses—or is it #DnD2024? Or #5E2E?

@LeviKornelsen

#worldofdarkness (play in / help run a MU*, play in a #roll20 Dark Ages campaign)
#larp (play in one #chroniclesofdarkness and one homebrew)
#paranoia (run one-offs at local game conventions)

@LeviKornelsen

- the NSR side of OSR
- solo games
- worldbuilding and (very basic) conlangs
- making maps
- learning art and layout
- publishing as an independent individual, especially adventures
- I also play a wider range of games than I write for, especially PbtA and FitD games
- I used to play a lot of 13th age

@LeviKornelsen Hey, I draw maps and play sandbox, osr and Call of Cthulhu. Cheers !

@LeviKornelsen
I’m generally interested in the industry and craft. For specific conversations:
#starfinder
D&D (#planescape or #eberron mostly)
#pathfinder 1e and 2e
#eclipsephase
#cypher
#shadowrun
#fantasyage

Would love to try new stuff too. Interested in #kidsOnBike #BladesInTheDark #DreamsAndMachines and #DeltaGreen

@SoloRunStudio @LeviKornelsen Eberron is definitely my jam! While I like a lot of the later lore, I'd still rather actually have it *run* in 3.x (what I call the general 3.0/3.5/d20m/PF1 cluster).

Starfinder is something I'm curious about, though less because of the setting and more because the idea of 3.x-adjacent science fantasy appeals.

@pteryx @LeviKornelsen I think you could run a really solid #eberron campaign in PF1e with the 3.5 feats, Shifter, Kalashtar, Changling, and Warforged species as is. They’d need a little trait support, but otherwise would work.

#Starfinder is actually really robust and can be used for anything from Flash Gordon style space opera to cyberpunk shadowrunning. I don’t feel like people have really plumbed the potential there.

@SoloRunStudio @LeviKornelsen I appreciate how Pathfinder 1e wasn't shy about including noncombat spells that would enhance an Eberron campaign. (Contrast with late 3.5, which had a number of hints at the heavier combat focus to come in 4e.) There are some classes that would shine in Eberron too, like Vigilante. I'd definitely want to include Dreamscarred Press material rather than forcing psionics into the "psychic/occult magic" paradigm, though.

1/2

@SoloRunStudio @LeviKornelsen As far as specific things I'd like to do in Starfinder, I have an old fantasy character concept who didn't really do that well in the freeform RP he was originally part of, who I'd like to give a do-over as a mecha pilot. Mechanically speaking he'd probably be most like a Small aasimar as far as species, though storywise it's more complicated than that. Of the classes, I could see him as a technomancer...

2/2

@SoloRunStudio @pteryx @LeviKornelsen AND a Fiasco RPG style situation? That makes me less anxious about my decision making.
@SoloRunStudio @pteryx @LeviKornelsen #Eberron and #SavageWorlds go together like peanut butter and chocolate. https://immaterialplane.com/products/eberron-for-savage-worlds/ is the implementation I hadn’t known I had spent the last 20 years waiting for.
Eberron for Savage Worlds

@LeviKornelsen Deep into Blades in the Dark and hacking/hacks of that system (just received my CBR Punk package). Also Trophy, Brindlewood Bay, fantasy cyberpunk, weird horror, sword & sorcery, and art and illustration. Long-time member of the official Dark Sun setting maintenance team, and I enjoy talking about Athas, but not so much about D&D mechanics.

Should probably add some tags:

@greyorm @LeviKornelsen I like Forged in the Dark hacks, and I enjoy playing Brindlewood Bay.

I once did a Runequest conversion for Dark Sun which was quite a lot of fun. The ‘relatively fragile weapons’ came over quite well.

@PlaneSailingGames when I started doing the hack, I kept wondering how I would handle fragile weapons, but when I reached that point in the doc it was obvious and intuitive: it's a consequence!
