#introduction Hello! I’m Tiffany (they/them). I’m a settler on Treat 7 land. I’m disabled (fibro, endo, migraines, nervous system shenanigans) and not neurotypical (what is the exact flavour of my neurospice? I have suspicions but no diagnoses, and I’m cool with that). I’m a narrative therapist and I do some community work. Right now I am working on a collection of projects in support of trans lives, and I host a climate anguish group for Alberta folks, and a little online disability peer group.
@Tiffany Hi Tiffany! How is it going? Are ya finding your way and your community on here?
@vlrny Thank you! I’m happy to be here! Just finding my way (following lots of folks, finding the hashtags that I’m interested in) and trying to figure out how I want to engage with this space. So far I’m really enjoying the climate threads I’m finding! (My climate anguish group meets tonight and we’re talking about the actions that are available to us, so the threads have been sparking lots of thoughts.)

@Tiffany Awesome! Sounds like you are doing all the right things. Glad to have ya with us. 🧡

Re climate you might like #solarPunk #hopePunk and #rewilding tags as well.

And when you need to rest your soul, there's #mosstodon

@vlrny Awesome!! I am *very* into speculative fiction (in all media forms) as a space of possibility and meaning-making. Really influenced by Walidah Imarisha and adrienne maree brown’s ideas around visionary fiction. These are great tags for me! Thank you!!

@Tiffany Oooo I love all this! I have been quite ill with little cog so haven't been able to read much new fiction (re-reading old favs, or nibbling on mircofiction toots).

#visionaryFiction is a lovely phrase I hadn't heard it before.

I will be following your toots with interest. We definitely need to be telling ourselves more hopeful and empowering stories.

@vlrny Here’s one of Walidah Imarisha’s posts that I come back to often - https://www.walidah.com/blog/2015/2/11/rewriting-the-future-using-science-fiction-to-re-envision-justice ‘Visionary fiction offers social justice movements a process to explore creating those new worlds (although not a solution—that’s where sustained mass community organizing comes in).’

@vlrny I had a long stretch (years) of low cog related to illness, pain, and grief (which really impacts both pain and cognition!). I’m so thankful I’ve been able to read new fiction again - I’ve been zipping through both the #ReadHarderChallenge and the Free Black Women’s Library reading challenge this year. I just finish A Psalm for the Wild-Built by Becky Chambers and it was so sweet and tender and hopeful for what a different world could look like.
