That's what I was originally gonna say: this is a very gen x thing. But it felt a little on the nose.
I remember those early dial up days when websites had these very simple names that were often different from the brand name. So you always had to like look for the website name printed on products or hope that someone said them on the TV at some point. Especially cuz search engines were pretty shitty back then.
@Catsandcatsandcats I remember, from the late 90s, seeing a book someone published with the names, urls, and brief descriptions of various funny and/or cool websites. Without even knowing what would be a better way to disseminate that information, I was certain on a gut level that that wasn't the way to do it
